270 Illegal Workers in Iowa Sent to Prison

May 26, 2008

I’m sure everyone has read or heard about this article by now, but I can’t help but wonder why this only happened here.  If they are going to start sending illegal immigrants to jail with federal charges against them, then why not do it all across the board.

They obviously are capable of doing it, whether it was a violation of due process or not, so why was this same tactic not used in Texas or California during the big raids those two states also had this week.  I’m not saying that I want to see more of this, but I am just trying to understand what set this up.

The only thing I can think of is a show of muscle or to intimidate the workers, or employers.

From the article and other pieces I have read, it sounds like these people were dealing with some pretty nasty factory managers.  I can’t help but think that these guys had to know that the SSNs were false, how can you have that many Guatemalans all working for you with legit numbers or visas.  Sounds like they were farming them in and word always gets around about places that will hire illegals and give you papers to work under.

They knew what they were doing and I am waiting to see what their punishment will be.

Life Does That Sometimes

March 18, 2008

My life has taken over and I have neglected my blogs as a result.  Sorry for that, but I am ready to get at it again.

I have been following the news same as I always do, so I will have plenty to say in the days to follow.

What Tancredo Has To Say About Spanish

December 8, 2007

So disgusted right now.

THE DEBATE IS IN ENGLISH!!

I speak English, it is my first language.  I also speak six other languages- so what.  It is the content that is debated that is the difference, and then the English dialogue is translated.

Don’t even get me started on the ads he has been running, then everyone wonders where the stereotypical Latino gangbanger ideas come from.

Republicans to Debate on Univision

December 8, 2007

Finally after cancelling the scheduled Republican Presidential debate in September because the candidates turned down the invitation to debate, Univision is getting its forum.  All but Tom Tancredo will participate, stating he will never participate in a Spanish debate.

I don’t know if he didn’t watch the first one, held among the democrats or if someone didn’t read the rules to him but I’m wondering how he would ever manage to get along as president this way.  Does he expect that everything he says will only ever be communicated to the people and the rest of the world in English?  He has to know that he will be translated, which is exactly what is going to happen in this forum.

The entire forum is held in English, even the introductions. The discussion is just translated into Spanish for the viewers, much as every single speech made by the president and aired on Univision is.

**Sorry, the debate is Sunday night not Saturday.**

Anyway, the republican forum takes place Sunday night, you can watch it on Univision or on their website

I realize I never did post the transript from the Democratic forum, you can find it here, in English.

Illegal Immigrants Being Kidnapped

December 3, 2007

This is the kind of stuff I always think about as happening in Mexico, not here in the States. yes, I know people get kidnapped here, but Mexico is notorious, especially a few years back, for having problems with people being kidnapped and held from their families for ransom.

The fact that this practice has followed and is now so common in certain parts is disheartening and scary.  I think the worst part though, is the negativity that these types of tactics bring.

I have been talking to a friend living in Arizona for a while now, and he assures me that any negative vibes I get living up here in the North are ten times worse in Arizona.  Apparently the illegal immigrant situation down there is not at all friendly.  Reading The Arizona Republic makes me believe that his statements are true.

If you want to read the article in the Arizona Republic yourself that covers the problem with kidnapping of illegal immigrants in that area click here.

Mitt Romney’s Immigration Ad

November 16, 2007

I liked Thompson’s ad, it seemed sincere, Romney’s ad rubs me the wrong way though.  Romney comes off as cocky.

Here is a link to Romney’s website where you can view the ad.

Fred Thompson Immigration Video

As the Number of Illegal Immigrants Rises, So Does the Number of Minutemen

November 6, 2007

Just because the government can’t decide what to do about illegal immigration doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t.  I can’t say that I am surprised that the numbers of minutemen have gone up, and not just in places along the Mexican border.

I am not sure if anyone else saw it, but MTV had a special on a couple months ago that followed the experience of one man who decided to joint he minutemen and patrol a small area for the first time.  People from all walks of life are signing up, and all of them say they are doing it because they are American.

Dream Act Blocked

October 26, 2007

Well, it is official the bill failed to get passed onto the Sentae by six votes I believe.  I think I have said everything I wanted to say on this matter, maybe not on here but everything has been said.

I don’t think it would have encourage more illegal immigration but I do think it would have given the children who are caught in the middle a place and a fair chance.

Here’s a link to Reuters if you want to read about it.

Environmental Impact of the Border Wall

October 23, 2007

I am embarrassed to say that I am a Biology major and I never considered the environmental impacts the border wall would create in the South.  I guess when you are dealing with an issue like immigration, things like the environment take a back seat.

At least that’s what I get from reading this piece on the negative effects of the Border wall and why environmental groups are sitting by idly.
